Old Friends

Today, Myrle called....she needed me...and like those days in 1990,1995,2002 when I so needed a friend more than a Doctor, husband, mother....she stopped everything and listened. There was no judgement, no advice, no anger just love and understanding.
Dear Friend, though we see seldom have the joy of spending a lot of time together these days, in my heart I visit with you every day. Ours has been a friendship that did not yield to the pressures of time and our moods never were each others responsibility but rather each others concern. You will always be my sister, dear Myrle and you will always be able to call on me at any time for any reason because I love you dearly and thank God for the day we met.

Direct Buy MadonnartStudio

Busy busy day spent regrouping the Beach Collection and the Showroom after the Buying Night finished.Thank goodness I have time to take stock before heading off to Birthday Week in Edmonton on Saturday.I am so looking forward to a week of frivolus play Birthday week entails and do hope that a night at the track is on the agenda. Our girl will be 40 August 6th. All the menfolk will be gone which means three generations of women will be on their own to celebrate the week, what fun. When I return I will have my favorite 16 year old in all the world to myself for a week....well grandpa and I will have to share her and that hardly works....ever.

Perfect summer so far

Bear with me my Peeps, I am about to go all nostalgic and simple on you. The last week has been spent with friends, brave enough to visit and take their chances living in a smokey, traffic bound city with a die hard raw foodie. They did it with such class and humor, drinking the green drinks, eating the nearly raw asparagus and salmon and smilingly remarking.....tasty. late into the early morning hours we reminisced and they like those peoples in the Storey Circles of the ages listened to the same stories they have heard over and over and laughed like it was the first time. I so love old friends and am so grateful for them braving the 44 degree C heat, the food, the art tour and the little black dog that insisted on sleeping with them. Love you!

Could it be you my daughter?

It has been 40 years since that great never to be seen again 3 days of peace and music happened in Woodstock. 40 years since John Sebastian made that announcement from the stage that some cats old lady just delivered a baby. What a person that sweet child could be, could accomplish. She would be musical of course and have a voice for peace. She would be full of joy, laugh and love without reserve and care so much about not just her people but everyone who needed a hand and she would hold out that hand. What a time that was for me. Full of memories...Elvis, the Beatles, The Viet Nam war, the birth of my first daughter in August of 1969....my daughter the singer, the artist, the neighbourhood activist. She will be 40 in August...groovy man.

Smokin!!!

Still smokey, helicopters still flying with buckets 5am til dark, still advised to keep stuff packed in case winds change but all in all the feeling of panic is diminished replaced by a huge feeling of love and gratitude for those fighting the fires

Ready and waiting

We were put on evacuation alert hours ago and are ready to go when we hear that the fire is too close to stay in our home any longer. As I write this I look at the 4 boxes of precious items I cannot walk away from.It was easy to decide what needed to come especially those things which cannot be replaced in my heart. It was not valuables. Photo albums of course; boy am I glad I put all the pictures in albums last winter. Letters from our grandchildren and from our children along with school projects gifted to us over the years, like the plaster imprint of the kids hands (this is the hand you used to hold when you were only 5 years old) they did in kindergarten.Grandma Dot's wedding gown and the top to our wedding cake. Important personal business papers and back up discs for computer info. All my original watercolors and the beautifully painted canvas bag I received from Laurie for xmas last year.My jewelry and last of all Coco's ashes. When we lock the house, load the car and leave our home of just 2 short years, this is all I personally need to start over.

Musings as I paint

You know how you remember your favorite doll, puzzle, game, action figure or book from childhood....mine was none of those as my earliest memory was of paper and crayons and later paints and the secret room that was the space under my bed where I would lay and paint for hours. I would scavenge paper, cardboard, boards, cloth, any usable surface and draw and paint until my mother discovered me and put me to work usually in the garden. The subject of my art was generally nature, mystical animals or spiritual native stuff. Scary when you are the good catholic mother of a daydreaming budding artist that at the age of 10 wrote poetry, meditated and appeared to be on the brink of joining the neighborhood coven. Perhaps that's the reason none of my early masterpieces are available today....mmm...me musing..........

B&B vacant once again

This morning I refitted the guest room with fresh linen, towels and chocolate. Vacumed, polished and aired out the room for the next weary travellers who are currently making their way from Willmington, Delaware. This room gets more action then a kissing booth on the army base in Afganistan.Five more groups will visit, rest, eat and sweat {today it is 38}between now and August 20th and then it will be fall...where has the summer gone?

HAPPY CANADA DAY, So much to celebrate, like all things red that I truly love. I especially love you Canada Post and all your quirky losing habits. Oh you know my elusive friend, I am referring to all of the zines I subscribe to....all of them....from all over the world
The ones you no longer deliver......remembering now?....
